The new Meningitis B vaccine service for teens

Find out if you're eligible for the new fully-funded NHS scheme, and how to book

What is the new Meningitis B vaccine programme of 2026?
In response to the number of Meningitis B cases this year, the government have initiated a programme where around 1 million young people will be offered both doses of the vaccine, free of charge.

The idea is that this fully-funded NHS scheme will act as a 'catch-up' campaign, giving young people who missed the opportunity to receive the vaccine as a baby, the chance to get vaccinated now.

This service is currently only available in England through community pharmacies.

Why students should get the Meningitis B vaccine in 2026
Meningococcal (or "MenB" as it's more widely known) is a disease that progresses quickly, and can be deadly. Even survivors of MenB can be left with life-changing disabilities. Teenagers and young adults are often the most at risk as they're frequently hanging out in close quarters where the infection spreads more easily - whether that be social events, or shared spaces such as uni halls.
When can students get the Meningitis B vaccine in 2026?
The programme officially starts in July 2026, with first doses running until 31 December 2026, and second doses running until 31 March 2027. However, if eligible then it's recommended to book your vaccines as soon as you can, to ideally receive both doses before the new academic year starts in September. The second vaccine should only be administered at least 28 days after the first, so it's best to give yourself enough time to fit both in. Both doses are required for protection.
Where can students get the Meningitis B vaccine in 2026?
This programme is England-specific and applies to community pharmacies only. If eligible, you'll be able to walk into any participating Well Pharmacy at your convenience to receive your MenB jab.

Not eligible? Don't worry, you can still get your Meningitis B vaccine with Well
