Keep hitting your weight loss goals with our support

A nationwide change means that the price of Mounjaro, a weight loss medication, is set to increase this September.

This doesn’t mean that your weight loss journey has to come to an end.

We explain the reason for the price change, what it means for continued stock availability and how you can continue to manage your health with the support of our team.

  • Alternative weight loss treatment, including liraglutide and Wegovy, from £127
  • Clinical support for the safest transition to a new weight loss treatment

Changes to the price of Mounjaro will affect pharmacies and providers across the UK. Mital Thakrar, Head of Weight Management at Well Pharmacy, explains what these changes will mean for your long-term weight loss progress.

Why is the price of Mounjaro changing?

The company that produces Mounjaro, Eli Lilly, has made the decision to increase its price.

Mounjaro was launched in the UK at a lower price than in the European Union. This was to make sure the drug was available through the NHS. But now, to help ensure equitable distribution of Mounjaro internationally, the manufacturer has raised its price.

Well Pharmacy, like other healthcare providers, uses wholesalers to access Mounjaro. The increased manufacturer’s price means that both pharmacies and patients like you, will have to pay more for the medication.

What will the new price be?

The new pricing information hasn’t been made public yet. We’re in communication with our wholesale suppliers. We’ll contact you as soon as we know.

This means that we’ll update our website and contact all of our existing patients to let them know.

Is there a stock issue affecting Mounjaro?

The expected pricing changes have triggered an increased demand for Mounjaro. Despite this, you should still be able to access it regardless of whether you’re a new or existing patient.

Can I access multiple pens before the price changes?

No. You’ll only be able to access a 1 months’ worth of medication.

All medications, including Mounjaro, should be used as advised by your pharmacist. Requesting more medication than you need puts you at risk of using medication that is expired or inappropriate for your needs.

If you have any concerns about the availability of Mounjaro, you can contact our pharmacy team to ask any questions you might have.

What should I do if I can’t afford Mounjaro anymore?

Although Mounjaro is a clinically-proven and valuable weight loss solution, it isn’t the only option available.

There are several weight loss treatments available. This includes Wegovy (semaglutide), Nevolat (liraglutide), and orlistat. They are all more affordable alternatives to Mounjaro.

Talk to your pharmacist about these medications and how you can switch over to one that suits your needs.

Can I switch to another medication?

Yes, it’s possible to switch to a different weight loss treatment.

Speak to your pharmacist about your eligibility. They’ll explain how you can transition over to Wegovy or another treatment like liraglutide or orlistat.

You can lose up to 15% of your starting body weight with Wegovy. It’s a practical and clinically-proven alternative to Mounjaro.

Regardless of which medication you choose, we’ll always make sure you’re safe, and we’ll be in regular contact to check on your progress and be available to answer any of your questions.
