How do our medicated weight loss treatments work?
Our weight loss injections work by mimicking certain hormones in your brain that tell you when you are full. Medicines such as Wegovy or Mounjaro mimic the GLP-1 hormone, making you feel fuller for longer and less hungry.
Orlistat is slightly different. It works by decreasing the amount of dietary fat being absorbed by your body when you eat.

What our experts have to say
Our GPhC-registered pharmacists carefully assess your eligibility for our weight loss clinic and ensure that you receive support and advice throughout your treatment. They care about your wellbeing and your ability to hit your weight loss goals safely.
"We recognise that weight loss is a journey, not a destination. The physical and emotional challenges associated with our weight and our relationship with food can be difficult to face on our own.
"Our pharmacists offer a full and thorough initial consultation to ensure you are a suitable candidate and best prepared to start using medicated weight-loss products. We also schedule monthly review appointments where we can offer advice on your dosage and support you with any lifestyle challenges that you have.
"We want you to not only achieve your goals but also maintain them."

Weight loss medications are designed for people between the ages of 18 and 75 with a high BMI. To qualify for the use of weight loss injections or capsules, you'll need to have a BMI of 30 or over or a BMI of over 27 if you have an underlying weight-related health condition (such as diabetes or hypertension).
However, it's important to bear in mind that each weight loss medication has its own set of criteria when it comes to prescriptions.
To find out if the service is suitable for you, you'll be required to have a video consultation with one of our pharmacists. You'll be asked a series of questions to help us determine if you meet the criteria for our weight loss medications, such as your age, weight, height and medical history.
If your pharmacist deems you eligible for weight loss injections or tablets, you'll receive your prescription in the post. Each month during your treatment, you'll have a video consultation with a pharmacist as part of our weight loss clinic service.
If you are ineligible for medication, your pharmacist will be able to discuss alternative solutions with you to help you reach your weight loss goals.
Weight loss injections, work by mimicking the hormones that tell your brain that you feel full. This can result in patients feeling fuller for longer, even after eating less food than they normally would. They can also slow down your digestive system, helping you to eat smaller portions while taking the medication.
Combined with a diet and exercise plan, weight loss injections can make it easier to lose weight.
Unlike weight loss injections, medications such as orlistat work by reducing the amount of fat your body absorbs from your meals by around a third.
You may experience some side effects during your weight loss treatment, and the side effects can vary depending on the type of medication you're taking.
Some of the most common side effects of weight loss tablets and injections include:
- Headaches
- Diarrhoea
- Feeling sick or vomiting
- Constipation
- Stomach pain or discomfort
If you have any concerns about side effects you may be experiencing while taking weight loss medication, please don't hesitate to reach out to us or contact your GP for advice.
Knowing which weight loss treatment is the best choice for you will depend on a number of factors, including your personal preference. Some people may prefer to take capsules, whereas others may opt for weight loss injections.
The two different types of treatments work in different ways, so which one you use can depend on:
- Your BMI
- Your medical history
- Any current medications you take
- Your weight loss goals
- How comfortable you are with any potential side effects
In your consultation, your clinician will determine which treatment is the most suitable option for you. If we conclude that you are unsuitable for weight loss medication, we'll be unable to fulfil your order and will discuss alternative options.
