Tirzepatide was first developed to treat the symptoms of type 2 diabetes.¹ Since then, its ability to help reduce BMI has encouraged it to be branded as weight loss medication. Mounjaro and Zepbound are some examples of this drug.^2,3

It works by copying the action of two different hormones – GLP-1 and GIP. This allows it to lower your blood sugar levels, make you feel fuller for longer and reduce any cravings you may have.¹

There isn’t a significant difference between the two medicines. Mounjaro is only available on prescription in the UK to treat obesity in adults over the age of 18. You have to have a BMI of 30 or more to be eligible to use it.²

Zepbound is designed for the same purpose, but it was first launched in the USA as a treatment for type 2 diabetes.²

Both medicines come in pen injectors and must be taken once every week.^2,3
