Drinking too much alcohol can be harmful to your health.
If you’re concerned about your alcohol consumption, we’re here to help. Our pharmacists can talk to you about your use of alcohol, and how you can safely reduce any harm to your health.
The NHS recommends men and women drink no more than 14 units per week - and not all in one go! It’s suggested that women have a maximum of 2-3 units per day, and men have 3-4 units. If you’re pregnant, trying to get pregnant, or breastfeeding, it’s recommended that you don’t drink any alcohol.
A half-pint of low-average strength beer or cider contains about 1 unit of alcohol, as does a single shot of 40% strength spirit. The NHS has more information on calculating alcohol units.
Whether you want to know how many units of alcohol might be harmful to your health or want strategies to help you cut back, our pharmacists will advise you so that you can make a change.
The majority of our pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss your health in confidence with one of our pharmacists, and they can offer you advice and support.
Your pharmacist can also put you in touch with organisations who can give you more support and information, including UK SMART Recovery, Alcoholics Anonymous and the NHS.
