What is an Independent Prescriber?
An Independent Prescriber is a pharmacist who has been trained to assess your symptoms, provide diagnoses and prescribe medication to manage your symptoms.
Like doctors, they can help you get treatment for your health concerns.
The conditions we cover

- Ear, throat and sinus infections
- Skin conditions and infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Women’s health concerns
- Men’s health concerns
- Selected minor illnesses requiring prescription treatment
All our consultations happen in private consultation rooms. An Independent Prescriber will discuss your symptoms and recommend treatment.
Our health check service will be right for you if:
- Need treatment for yourself or a loved one outside of work hours
- Are not registered with a local GP
- Prefer a discreet consultation setting
- Want immediate advice and support with a health condition.

Get your prescription
If you need treatment, we will generate a prescription for you. It will be dispensed immediately.
Discuss your follow-up options with us
Depending on your diagnosis and treatment, our Independent Prescribers will talk to you about follow-up appointments or referrals to specialists.

Yes, we will be adding more locations to the service. We have Independent Prescribers across the UK who will begin to support your health in your local area. From health check to prescription, we’ll be there to help you navigate your health.
You’ll need to pay £29 for the service. You’ll need to pay for any medicines we prescribe. Your pharmacist will let you know how much during your appointment.
Consultations are subject to the Independent Prescriber availability, you can walk in or book online and look for available slots.
You can let your GP know about your consultation. Alternatively, your Independent Prescriber can share the details of your appointment and consultation with them if you give them permission to.
Each service has its own exclusion criteria. Talk to your pharmacist about your child’s symptoms. They’ll let you know if they are eligible for the service.
Our private prescribing services are exclusively delivered by Independent Prescribing Pharmacists. They have specialised training that allows them to diagnose conditions and prescribe a broader range of medicines than the average pharmacist.
Although Pharmacy First allows you access NHS treatment and skip queues at your GP service, our private health checks can allow us to serve a wider range of patients, including those who may not typically be eligible for free services.
