Storing your medicines carefully will help maintain them

Travelling doesn’t mean that you have to put your medicated weight loss journey on hold. You can take your injections with you. But careful storage will make sure they are working as they should when you arrive at your destination.

Wegovy and Mounjaro can help you lose weight sustainably. If you are travelling, there are a few things you should know about your pen injectors to ensure that they continue to work as normal.

  • Your pens should always be kept at a temperature of 30°C or less once opened. Before opening, make sure you keep your medication refrigerated. If they are exposed to higher temperatures, you should dispose of them using the sharp box that you will have been given at the start of your treatment. Mounjaro can be kept out of the fridge for 30 days but should be kept in a cool place.
  • Buy a medical cooler to maintain the temperature of your pens
  • Keep your pens in their original boxes
  • You can store your pens in a fridge between 2 and 8°C
  • Don’t freeze your pen injectors
  • Check the entry requirements for your destinations. You may need to declare your medication on arrival.
  • Keep your pens out of the reach of children.1,2

Wegovy and Mounjaro should be used with regular exercise and a healthy diet. Staying on track with these lifestyle adjustments while travelling can help you continue with your weight loss progress.1,2

Travel checklist

Get travel insurance

If your holiday doesn’t go as planned, travel insurance can cover you if you have to cancel or cut short your holiday because of illness or injury.

Take the right amount of medication with you

Wegovy and Mounjaro prescriptions last for 4 weeks. You’ll only need to take enough pens with you to cover the length of your stay. If you know that you’ll be abroad for longer than a month, you should talk to your pharmacist or doctor about your prescription options.

Ask your GP or your pharmacist for a letter

Local regulations in some countries will mean that you need a letter from your GP to explain which medicines you are travelling with and why. Your local doctor’s surgery will likely charge a fee for this service. You should contact them in advance of your trip to make sure that they can write it for you in time. We also provide a letter confirming your Wegovy or Mounjaro treatment if you require one for going through airport security.

Set alarms to remind you to take your medication

Travelling across time zones might give you jet lag, but it can also make it more difficult to stay on track with taking your medicine. Wegovy and Mounjaro need to be taken at the same time each week. You can set reminders on your phone, tablet or any other devices you might have to make sure you stick to your schedule.
