Our complete health check service is much more than a routine check-up. Our pharmacists will help you understand your heart health and cholesterol levels, your risk of stroke and diabetes, and give you advice on how to improve your healh and wellbeing.

What is the health check service?

The health check service is suitable for anyone over the age of 18. It aims to identify if you're at risk of, or have early signs of:

  • High blood pressure
  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • Stroke.

We look at your lipid and blood glucose levels as well as factors which increase your risk of these conditions, such as:

  • Being overweight
  • Smoking
  • Excess alcohol consumption
  • Physical inactivity.

Our healthcare professionals will offer advice to help prevent these conditions developing in the future and give you guidance on the small changes you can make to live well.

How does a health check work?

Visit your nearest Well pharmacy

Head in-store to arrange an appointment with one of our pharmacists. It only costs £25 to receive a comprehensive set of tests to check your current health status.

Learn about your health

Through a series of tests, we'll measure your BMI, blood glucose and cholesteerol levels to give you tailored health advice. Our pharmacists will discuss risk factors with you and give you guidance on how can start to improve your health.

Get tailored advice and support

Our pharmacist will give you advice based on your health needs. They will consult you privately so that you can start to make positive changes to your lifestyle.

What happens at a health check appointment?

Your pharmacist will ask you a series of questions about your lifestyle and family history. They'll measure your height and weight to calculate your BMI. You can also ask them to measure your waist circumference.

They will take a blood pressure reading and do finger prick blood tests to measure:

  • Your cholesterol levels
  • Your blood glucose levels.

Once your pharmacist has reviewed your results, they'll discuss your health and risk factors and provide advice on living well.

What are the benefits of the service?

After your health check is complete, your healthcare professional will offer you lifestyle advice tailored to improve your health. If necessary, they may suggest you visit your GP.

The advice you get could include ideas on how to:

  • Improve your diet
  • Increase your level or frequency of physical activity

  • Maintain a healthy lifestyle.
