Home delivery service vs online prescription delivery

We offer two kinds of prescription delivery service. Find out which is right for you.
To reduce the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), we’re asking that if you have a fever, a new, continuous cough, or shortness of breath, you get a friend or relative to collect your prescription for you from your pharmacy. However, we are aware that not everyone is able to ask someone else to collect their prescription on their behalf. These people may be interested in getting their prescriptions delivered to their door. We offer two services for prescription delivery.
Our home delivery service is available from many, but not all, of our pharmacies across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Your local Well Pharmacy remains your nominated pharmacy, where your prescription is fulfilled. It will be delivered by one of our local drivers, and will come to you straight from your pharmacy.
This service is usually available to only the most vulnerable in local communities, who cannot get to their pharmacy. The current coronavirus pandemic has significantly increased demand for our home delivery service, but we have a limited capacity. Unfortunately, this means we’re unable to offer any additional deliveries at this time.
We are currently recruiting extra drivers and will be working with those who have volunteered to help the NHS to increase our ability to deliver to those who are in isolation, and therefore unable to leave the house.
We urge people to only use this option when they are unable to leave their household and have no alternative. If you feel this applies to you, please speak to your pharmacist for more information. If you are practising social distancing and are able to leave your house for essentials, or if you have a friend, relative or neighbour who can collect your prescription for you, please do not use our home delivery service. This means we’re able to help those who need it most.
For the safety of both our drivers and customers, we’ve introduced a new, contactless, way of delivering prescriptions. Our driver will leave your medicine on your doorstep, knock or ring your doorbell, and stand back 2 metres. When someone opens the door, the driver will ask for their relationship to the patient, and record it. If no one answers the door, you’ll receive a “missed delivery” card.
If you have recently received a letter or text from the government asking you to remain at home for 12 weeks, you will be eligible for a new service which will deliver your medication to your house. The details of this have not yet been finalised but this should shortly be available. You will need to register for this.
Online prescription delivery service
For patients in England, we offer an online prescription delivery service via our app and website. Instead of being fulfilled at your local Well Pharmacy, your prescription is processed at our Healthcare Service Centre in Stoke-on-Trent.
Sign up for an account via our app or website, then select the medication on your prescription. We’ll send your order to your GP for approval, then ask for you to pay for your prescription or provide proof you’re exempt from paying. Once we have that, we’ll dispense your medicine and send it via Royal Mail. Due to increased demand, we currently recommend you order your prescription two weeks in advance.
