Sore throat

What is a sore throat?

A sore throat can happen when you have an infection. Sore throats are usually nothing to worry about and can go away by themselves after a few days.

Main symptoms of a sore throat include:

  • Pain and redness in the throat
  • An occasional cough
  • A scratchy feeling in your throat
  • Bad breath
  • Swollen glands in your neck.

If you have a sore throat and need treatment, you can now go to your local pharmacist for support using our Pharmacy First service. They will discuss your symptoms privately and help you with an appropriate treatment, cutting out the need to go to a GP first.

If they think you might have tonsilitis, you may have to see your GP.
