Description
Desogestrel is sometimes referred to as a mini pill.
As with all progesterone only medicines, it should be taken daily, preferably at the same time each day. It's taken without a break.
Desogestrel works by thickening the mucus in the cervix to stop sperm reaching an egg.
The progestogen-only pill can also stop ovulation. If taken effectively it's more than 99% effective Tablets are taken daily, at the same time each day and without a break.
Warnings
The progesterone only pill is usually very well tolerated, there are some side effects that can occur such as acne, breast tenderness or enlargement, decreased sex drive or mood changes, headaches, vomiting or nausea. For a full list of side effects see the patient information leaflet
